Your Moment of ‘Zoo… Looks like the last physical evidence of the M.D. Ellis Jewelry store in Kalamazoo. I was searching for more history on the store, but all I could find was that it was founded in 1958 by Raymond Mackie. If you have some info on the history please reply to this blog!

M.D. Ellis clock – I know a lot about the jewelry store. My grandpa was Ray Mackie, and I worked there when I was in high school. What do you want to know?

I believe it stands for Miron D. Ellis Jewelers and it was opened on Portage St in 1906. In the late 1920s he moved to a location on W. Main St. He died in 1961. My grandma has jewelry from the store and I have an original box.
